My name is Barret and my workshop is pretty much whatever I need it to be. My workshop is the portal to my creative side and allows me to express myself through woodworking, wood carving, and do it yourself home renovations/projects. Inside or outside, my workshop is where the work is getting done.

Core Values

Family - My family is the most important thing in my life. They are a constant source of inspiration and support. Obviously we have our hands full, but the boys will surely learn our other core values through my wife and I.

Work Hard/Play Harder - Hard work is hard? It sure is, but I feel great at the end of the day when I look back at what I have accomplished. Never EVER forget to take a break from hard work for play time!

Learning - Continuously! I thoroughly enjoy learning about myself, my craft, and anything else that interests me. I am never afraid to jump into a rabbit hole (I probably jump into too many at once). I always learn new tricks that serve me well later. The goal is to be better tomorrow than I was today.

My History

I grew up in in the White Mountains of Arizona in the sleepy little town of Lakeside. Tinkering was the name of the game back then. EVERYTHING was disassembled and reassembled. I built a house, worked on my own cars, installed car and home audio systems, and I worked at a hardware store.

After high school I joined the United States Navy where I learned to operate a nuclear reactor powered steam plant. I was a Mechanical / Chemical /Radiological Protection technician. I proudly served for 8 1/2 years. During that time I continued to tinker with cars and install car audio systems. I began brewing beer and smoking meats during those years, but honestly I was more interested in drinking and partying during those years to really pursue any other passions.

After the Navy I continued a career in Nuclear Power. I moved to Central New York, bought a house, and met my wife. Since then DIY, woodworking, gardening, baking, brewing, and carving have tended to be my primary focus. Occasionally I will jump into a new rabbit hole for a while.

Ambitions

I am am instructor in my current job and I love to help people learn. I would love to contribute to the woodworking and DIY communities as an educator and as a source of information/inspiration.
